How we structure each programme
Each Banyan Scroll programme follows the same underlying design: begin with concepts that are straightforward, establish a working vocabulary, and then move into areas of greater complexity with that foundation in place. Participants are not expected to arrive with prior knowledge.
Materials are provided in writing rather than through video, because written content is easier to re-read, annotate, and return to as questions arise. Each session ends with a short reflection exercise that helps participants connect the material to their own circumstances without requiring disclosure.
We work alongside qualified legal and financial professionals, not in their place. Our programmes prepare participants to make better use of professional time — and to understand what they are agreeing to when they do.
Programme 1
Wills and Estate Basics
A four-week foundations course for Hong Kong residents in their 40s and 50s who are thinking about a will for the first time, or returning to one written years ago. Sessions cover what a will can and cannot do, intestacy rules under Hong Kong law, the role of executors, and the practical steps involved in preparing a will with professional help.

Programme 2
Trusts and Succession Planning
A six-week programme for those considering whether a trust structure might suit their circumstances. The course explains the main types of trust used in Hong Kong and common cross-border situations, the cost and complexity involved, and the alternatives that may better serve smaller or simpler estates. Participants leave knowing which questions to put to a solicitor and trust practitioner — rather than with a prescription.

Programme 3
Family Legacy Blueprint
A ten-week programme that steps through a full estate plan for families with multi-generational concerns: property in Hong Kong and abroad, children in different jurisdictions, ageing parents, and the non-financial dimensions of legacy — letters to family, the distribution of personal items, and thinking carefully about the continuity of values. Participants compile a full written blueprint, receive structured feedback, and complete the course with a private review conversation.

Our Standards
What applies across all programmes
Privacy by design
No course asks participants to disclose asset values, estate size, or personal financial information. The learning works without it.
Annual content review
Materials are reviewed each year against current Hong Kong law. Active participants are informed of material changes.
Offline-ready materials
All worksheets, glossaries, and reference materials are downloadable in PDF format for use without an internet connection.
Clear scope boundaries
Each course is explicit about what constitutes education and what requires professional advice. We do not stray into the latter.
Substantive email support
Questions about course content are answered by a member of the team with relevant knowledge, not an automated system.
No referral commissions
When we suggest seeking professional help, there is no financial arrangement with the professionals we might mention. Our incentive is your clarity.

A brief conversation is often enough to clarify which course — if any — is the right starting point. No commitment is implied.
